  1. Bald eagles are not actually bald! Their name comes from the old English word "balde," which means white. Their heads are covered in beautiful white feathers.
  2. Bald eagles are the national bird and symbol of the United States, representing freedom and strength.
  3. They have incredible eyesight! A bald eagle can see four to five times better than humans, allowing them to spot prey from over a mile away.
  4. Bald eagles build some of the largest nests of any bird, often weighing over a thousand pounds! They can be as big as a small car.
  5. These majestic birds can fly at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour while flapping their wings and can dive at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour when catching prey.

  9. When it comes to their young, baby bald eagles are called eaglets. They are covered in fluffy down feathers and are often born in a nest with siblings.
