Fun Facts About Flying Squirrels

1. I glide, not fly.  See this stretchy skin between my arms and legs? It’s called a patagium, and it lets me soar through the air, up to 150 feet in one jump!

2. I live high in the trees, where it’s safe and comfy. My favorite hangout? A cozy tree hollow or a leafy nest way up in the branches.

3. Flying squirrels live all over Asia—yep, the forests over there are full of flying squirrels like me! From the mountains to the jungles, we love our treetop homes.

4. I’m nocturnal, which means I come out at night. I’ve got big, round eyes that help me see in the dark, kinda like night-vision goggles!

5. Wondering what’s on the menu? I snack on nuts, berries, seeds, fruit, insects, and sometimes even bird eggs. Treetop buffet!

6. I’m pretty small, only about 10 inches long, but don’t let that fool you. I’m quick and clever, and my fluffy tail helps me balance and steer mid-glide!

7. Speaking of gliding… I can leap from tree to tree and go over 150 feet in a single glide. That’s like flying across half a soccer field!

8. In the spring and summer, squirrel families grow! Mama flying squirrels have 2 to 4 babies, and we stay cozy in the nest while learning to glide.

9. I also make little chirps and squeaks to talk to my squirrel friends. Some sounds are super high-pitched, so high, that humans can’t even hear them!

10. And my tail? It’s my secret weapon; it helps me steer, balance, and even keep warm at night. Pretty cool, huh?
